  • Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do I apply at the Visa Application Centre?
A: For various reasons we cannot offer a visa service at the British Embassy in Damascus. The Visa Application Centre collects applications on our behalf and sends them on to Amman where we have Visa Officers who decide whether or not an applicant qualifies for a visa.

    Q. Can I just turn up at the Visa Application Centre?
    A. No. You should make an appointment either on-line at www.vfsglobal-uk-sy.com or by telephoning 6125270 or 6125271

    Q. Can a messenger submit my application?
    A. No. We must take scans of your fingers. This will be done electronically, in private, in the visa application centre.

Q: How long can I expect to wait for a visa?
A: Visit applications will take between 5 and 15 days. Settlement applications may take up to three months. Delays can occur in peak seasons (June, July and August).

    Q: When should I apply?
A: You can apply up to three months in advance of your travel date. The more notice you give the better in case there are any problems e.g. Computer breakdown.

Q: Where will my passport be?
A: Your passport will be sent to Amman and returned to you once a decision has been made on your application.

    Q. What if I need my passport?
A: You should apply at a time when your passport is not needed for any other reason.

    Q. Why do I need to provide supporting documents?
    A. Amman Visa Officers need to assess each application under the United Kingdom's Immigration Rules. To do this you need to show paper evidence that you do meet the Immigration Rules. For example a recent bank statement will show your income and expenditure over a period of time and demonstrate to the Visa Officer that you can pay for your trip to the UK.

    Q. If I need an interview will it be in Amman?
A: The majority of all applications will be decided after consideration of the papers you have provided and no interview will take place. In some cases a very short interview may be needed. If so this will be arranged in Damascus.

    Q. Can I just apply in Amman directly?
    A. Yes. You can visit the Visa Application Centre in Amman and apply there if you prefer.
